REC PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID
This is a 12 hour course that satisfies the guidelines and criteria laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted. It is perfectly suited interest to teachers, child minders, creche & nursery staff and playgroup personnel.
Content
The course will help you to administer first aid to a baby or child in your setting or at home and will cover the following topics.
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.
- Be able to assess an incident.
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive.
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed by summative practical assessments by the tutor throughout the course and a short multi choice question paper.
Certification
Successful completion of the course leads to a Rescue Emergency Care (REC) in Paediatric First Aid, which is valid for three years.
